IT Governance for Albanian Universities

On October 2nd 2020, University of Tirana partners organized several seminars with academic staff and pilot courses with master students. Representatives of the ITG4AU project in this university have been in charge of dictating this course.
Xhulio Mitre, Romina Muka, and Gjergji Mulla presented the main aspects of IT governance. First, it was presented the ITG4AU project, including the consortium, the aims and objectives, and the stakeholders’ intentions. Second, it was introduced the IT governance topic, by explaining the meaning of govern, IT governance, and its main standards. Third, it was compared the CIO vs the CTO to better address the business and key relationships. The role of the CIO and its main skills were also explained. Fourth, it was presented several IT governance frameworks and standards, focusing on the ISO/IEC 38500 standard. Fifth, it was deepened on building an IT governance framework by presenting the steps taken in the project. Finally, it was ended the sessions by showing the results obtained after proposing an IT governance framework for University of Tirana.
At the end of this training there were feedback and discussions about ITG, its strengths and weaknesses. Students were actively involved in this topic.
IT Governance for Albanian Universities
This project is aimed to gather a set of researchers from four universities with a wide experience in developing and deploying ITG framework models from 3 different countries (Spain, Germany and Norway) to develop, adapt and test a new ITG framework to be implemented in HEIs in Albania. Expected results of this project include a better governance model for IT in Albanian HEIs as well as an overall modernization of the governance processes for HEIs and a contribution of the cooperation between EU and Albania.
